can try antihistamines/decongestants, over the counter sleep aid
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Snoring is due to vibration of certain areas in the airways during sleep.
There are certain factors that can increase the chance of snoring occurring such as: (a) obesity- increased weight and particularly increased neck circumference (if your neck with more than 17 inches)
Obesity and snoring can sometimes mean that a person has sleep apnea (have times during sleep that stop breathing for a few seconds)
A sleep study may be needed to determine if this is the case.
(b)using alcohol- causes the muscles to relax and increases snoring
(c)smoking
(d)using sedatives or sleep aids can sometimes do this as well
(e)rhinitis- this means inflammation of the nasal passages usually due to allergies
Treatment: (a) if there is any history of increased weight, then weight loss may help
(b)if you have allergies or nasal congestion- using antihistamines, oral decongestants and topical decongestants may help
Eg benadryl d, allegra d, zyrtec d, claritine d- these are oral medications
Topical decongestants are normal saline and xylometazoline
(c)CPAP if have obstructive sleep apnea
(d)over the counter snoring aids such as theravent, nasal strips, mouth pieces
(e)in some persons surgery may be needed
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
