Suggest Ways To Wean Of Zyprexa

Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: Hi my friend.

there was a problem that made me want to lower my Zyprexa dose so slow (last two lowerings of my dose were 0,625 mg, each). but that problem has faded alot.

so now i maybe want to go as fast as is safe to "under 100% dose" and i need to go at least into 95% dose, 5% under the 100% dose.

i am on 8,75 mg per day oral dose of Zyprexa today.
so what is the most that i can lower my dose in one step safely ?

2,5 mg ?
5 mg ?
or more ?

by the way, if there are some side effects with lowering the dose fast, then i would like to know them :) and stuff like that :)

PS: Can you see my medical records from when i was in the Psychiatric Hospital or Mental Hospital or something like that in iceland ? (i have been combined for like 1 year inside the mental hospital system in iceland and i believe there are many records about that.)

PS 2: My age is 27 but the website wouldnt let me continue with that age so i just put "age 28".

Thanks <3 :)

Brief Answer:
2.5 mg is fine

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear,

Welcome back and thanks for question.

In my patients I routinely decrease 2.5 mg of olanzapine every month until patient reaches 2.5 mg per day after that 1.25 mg for a month and stop. Almost 80-90% of the patients can reduce without any problem. Only few suffer from sleep disturbance, feeling uncomfortable or uneasiness, appetite changes, anxiety, cramps for 2-3 days but these are also not severe and stop without any intervention or by reducing the dose more slowly. Such symptoms more seen when patient stop the drug cold turkey.

You also can go 2.5 mg reduction in dose.

To avoid breaking of more tablets go to 7.5 mg dose from 8.75 mg for 10 days and then reduce to 5 mg per day.

No I do not have any access of your treatment records. You have to get them on your own and upload if you want to discuss on that.

Age of 27 or 28 does not matter at all :). You are young man that is final.

Feel free to discuss further.
