Brief Answer:
Sudden stoppage of medicine is not advisable

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

From the available description it appears that you are not taking your health seriously and want to withdraw a medication against medical advice.

Generally an index case of depression lasts from six to nine months and it is possible that you are still having the depression which is controlled with medications. Most probably you will develop your depression within few days of discontinuation of your medication. So your doctor's decision to continue medication for next six months is completely justifiable and probably you are the one who is going to benefited with continued medication rather than anybody else.

There are measures which can be taken to control the drowsiness like decrease in dose of Paxidep CR which should be done under guidance of your doctor.

Regarding alcohol abuse with the depression medicines I need to warn you that this may lead to a dangerous cocktail and may have serious consequences.

I hope this helps you in taking informed decision in treatment of your health condition.
Thanks and regards.

Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for the reply and needful suggestions.
I now understand your point. I will continue with the medication.
One more thing is, i am not a habitual alcohol abuser. I drink once in 3 months. I just wanted to know, if i skip my medicines for a day and drink alcohol only on that day. It will not make a cocktail i will be skipping my medicines that day. There is a function in my house, i was asking because of that.

Brief Answer:
Follow safe limit

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I understand your desire to have drink.

On that occasion you can follow the safe drinking limits. For young healthy male the safe limit is three pegs (30 X 3= 90 ml) or one standard beer of 600-900 ml with 4% alcohol concentration.

The medicines stay in system for days and stopping them for one day may not be helpful. For example paxidep takes five to seven days to clear from the blood.

I hope this clarifies further.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Hi XXXXXXX

The reason I wanted to stop taking the medicines was the long term side effects that I may have with these medicines. Like sextual disorder, impotency. I read in many forums. Specially with flu ocd 50. Other long term side effects like breathing problems. Is it true with these medicines? Inderal 40 is kind of blood pressure medicine but my blood pressure remains normal. So it will also have a long term side effects. It's increasing my worries. I started these medicines because I used to remain dizzy throughout the day.

Brief Answer:
yes there are side effects but largely reversible

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks gor reverting back to me.

Yes there are side effects but the potential benefits outweigh the risks associated with them. For example flu ocd causes causes delayed ejaculation which is completely reversible on discontinuation. Additionally not every body develop side efects.

In regard to inderal I like to tell you that every medicine have multiple infications and inderal is no exception. Being an antihypertensive mefication it also helps in snxiety for which it was prescribed to you.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.
