Question: What is the best way to stop taking Oxycontin? I have an addiction that I want to kick so bad. I will be at my brothers in the U.P. of Michigan for 3 months and will not have anyway to get any Oxycontin. My question is, how can I make the withdrawl symptoms easier and reduce my cravings? I am also prescribed Kolonopin 1mg pills, Ativan 1mg pills and Xanax 2mg bars that can be broke into 4 pieces, those are all labeled as PRN, I also take 60mg of Cymbalta a day for deppression. please just help with any over the counter meds I might want to get, should I drink more water? what can I expect when going from 75mg of Oxycontin a month to nothing?

Brief Answer:
Gradual withdrawal might help you better

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

From the current dose I feel the gradual withdrawal will be ideal one as cold turkey will be too disturbing to manage the symptoms.

In my view going 20 mg down every week might help you along with plenty of water intake and ketorolac intake 10 mg PRN basis which is available over the counter in most countries. In case it is available as OTC in US you can go for diclofenalc 100 mg twice a day.

In case you are bold enough to manage the withdrawal than cold turkey is another option. The benefit of this technique is short duration of withdrawal symptoms in compare to gradual withdrawal.

The other option which may be available over the counter are flupirtine 100 mg three to four times a day as it lessens the pain associated with withdrawal of oxycontin.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
