Surgery Directly Is Good Choice PET Scan Showed A Left Upper Lobe Mass ?

Question : Hi, my PET scan showed a left upper lobe mass of 1.9cm x 2 cm x 3cm, SUV 5.8, highly suspicious of Carcinoma. The lesion has spiculated border. Since the lobe mass is very close to the blood vessels, the doctor said biopsy has a high risk of puncturing the lung, and blood vessels, and hence not recommended. The doctor suggest doing a laparoscopic surgery. There may be a chance this is a TB mass, or benign tumour. I have taken a Quantiferon TB Gold Test. Result has not been out yet. I would like to ask if TB test is positive, does this mean this is highly likely a TB mass and not a malignant tumour? And is doing a laparoscopic surgery directly is good choice?
Brief Answer:
Wait till you get Quantiferon TB gold test.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query .
PET test results which revealed suspicious mass of doubtful to be Carcinoma .
Ideally FNAC is the only confirmative test to confirm carcinoma however considering the risk involved in doing the same has put you in dilemma.
Doing Laproscopic surgery to remove the same can be performed after reviewing the report of Quantiferon TB Gold test
If by your luck it turns out to be Tuberculoma . It can be treated with Anti Tubercular drugs and major surgery could be averted.
Hence I would suggest you to wait till you get the report
Thanks and Regards
