Suugest Treatment For Testosterone Production After Oophorectomy

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: My doctor recommended Hormone replacement therapy with progesterone and estrogen after Oophorectomy, but I am pretty sure the ovaries produce small amounts of testosterone as well. Will removing my ovaries cause me to have no sex drive? How would one go about fixing this issue if it arose after surgery?

Brief Answer:
exogenous testosterone supplements.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.

May I please tell you some facts about androgen production in females (this will help you to understand the solution better):

-25% of the testosterone is produced in the ovary, another quarter is produced in the adrenal gland.

-50% of testosterone is produced in the peripheral tissues from the various precursors produced in the ovaries and adrenal gland.

So after oophorectomy, there will be some reduction in testosterone (but not all) and thus reduced sexual drive. This problem can resolved by exogenous testosterone supplements.

Consult your gynecologist and discuss about this.

Feel free to discuss further.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
