Question : ingenial hernia surgery - no mesh - left side few stitches - how long will it take for swelling to go down after surgery. Had surgery fri and am still swollen approx. 4 days out
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
The swelling is secondary to the inflammatory response to the trauma of surgery. Inflammation results in the production of certain chemicals that result in fluid accumulation inside the tissues which presents as swelling/edema.
In some persons it can take up to 2 to 3 weeks for the swelling to resolve. Rest and the use of celebrex would help speed up resolution.
It is also important to avoid any heavy lifting for up to 6 weeks.
I hope this helps. feel free to ask any additional questions
