Question : I have a 13 year old daughter with a herniated disc at L4, L5 and S1. This happened about 6 months ago. Now she all of the sudden has no control of her bowel movements. She has absolutely no idea when they are coming. This has been going on for a month and she has now been in diapers for over a month. She has had an EGD and Colonoscopy and everything was clear.

I have noted your medical problem and the past medical history
Let me tell you that your daughter's current medical problem cannot be explained by the disc herniation. This could be probably related to spinal cord involvement and/or hypotonia related to prader- willi syndrome. I urge you to get evaluated by a local pediatric neurologist who will examine and review the MRI scan if any and guide you about the cause of such dysfunction and the ways and means to resolve this issue.

We did have an MRI several months ago and a brief appointment with a neurosurgeon and he made a brief comment that if she were to have any
bowel or urinary problems to call back immediately. I have called and cannot
get a call back. Do you think this could be Cauda Equina Syndrome where a nerve
may be being pinched where the disc is herniated?
She is now also having leg pain that coincides with the hip pain involved with the
disc.

It can be cauda equina syndrome. Please note that, this can be diagnosed b y a detailed clinical examination. Cauda equina syndrome can cause the symptoms that you have described. But the disc herniation that you have mentioned may not be the cause or there may be multiple disc with severe nerve root compression. I will be happy if you can upload your MRI report.
