Test Showed High Lipase Value. What Could Be The Reason?
Question: Hello Doctor,
I've underwent a comprehensive medical test and the medical report containing my test results are attached herewith. The report says my LIPASE value is high. I DO NOT drink and DO NOT smoke. Please give me detailed suggestions and recommendations for each and every test I've taken by looking into my report.

I will explain report findings and their meaning.
Page 1
Amylase is normal. This means you do not have any pancreas related significant problems.
Page 2
Serum chloride levels are normal. This means your chloride level is normal.
Page 3
Serum iron, total iron binding capacity and % transferrin saturation are normal.
This shows you do not have iron deficiency and associated problems.
Page 4
Calcium, Sodium, uric acid and kidney function tests are normal.

Lipase is mildly raised. Lipase levels may be at abnormally high levels if a patient is experiencing:
•acute pancreatitis (a sudden inflammation of the pancreas)
•chronic pancreatitis (long term inflammation of the pancreas)
•pancreatic cancer
•severe gastroenteritis (or “stomach flu”)
•cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder)
•celiac disease (allergy to gluten)
This may be discussed with your doctor. An elevated lipase should not be equated with evidence for pancreatitis if the amylase is normal. You can have a high lipase level even when you do not have any problems with your pancreas. A test for amylase, another enzyme produced by the pancreas, is often done at the same time as a test for lipase.

Lipid profile (cholesterol numbers) are normal. This means you have no significant increased risk of heart disease.

Liver function tests are almost all normal.

Thyroid function tests are normal. You have no thyroid related problems.

I have another clarification. Though I am on insulin and tablets my recent and latest medical report states that my sugar tests are , FBS : 145 and PPS : 209 respectively. Kindly suggest that whether this is abnormal and too high and also suggest me a good diet plan for this.

The normal range of blood sugar is. RBS - 70-130mg/dl; FBS - 70-115mg/dl; PPBS-70-140mg/dl. Your FBS and PPBS looks slightly above normal range. Please get glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) test as this gives sugar control for last 3 months and is more reliable indicator for diabetes control.
A sample diabetic diet recommended for Indians may include the following
EARLY MORNING
Fenugreek seeds with 1 cup of water
Tea (without sugar) 1 cup XXXXXXX Biscuits 2
Breakfast
Stuffed methi/palak /lauki paratha 2 small
Curd 50 gm (1 cup)
OR
Egg white / Paneer Bhurji 1 medium bowl
Plain roti (no oil ) 2 small
OR
Vegetable poha/upama/oats/daliya 1 soup bowl
MID MORNING XXXXXXX /guava/orange 1
LUNCH
Salad (10 mins before lunch) 1 Medium bowl
Capsicum + gobhi veg 1 medium bowl
Dal 1 soup bowl
Phulka (no ghee) 2
EVENING
Milk / green tea / herbal tea / lemon water 1 cup
Roasted chana + Puffed rice 1 cup
