Question : This is a super weird question but oh well. So I get that when you have gastroparesis, your stomach is paralyzed so it can't digest food but does this condition also affect its ability to contract and produce ghrelin when someone is hungry? Does it affect what your stomach is supposed to do before eating or does it just affect its ability to digest food? If it doesn't then why not? This is an entirely hypothetical question by the way
Brief Answer:
Gastroparesis affects the ability of the stomach to contract.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I understand your concern.
Gastroparesis is a disease in which the stomach cannot empty itself of food.
So this medical condition affects the ability of the stomach to contract.
In this case the motility is slowed down or doesn't work at all.
This way gastroparesis it can cause undigested food.
It is mostly related to the motility of the stomach after eating food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
