This Query Is For - XXXXXXX Bhatti I Have A
I have a mild throat pain while swallowing saliva. If i eat anything oily i feel like clearing my throat and every time i cough a very small amount of mucus comes out.
I consulted a doctor and i took a CT scan of paranasal sinuses without IV contrast with the following finding - "Deviation of nasal septum to the left with a bony spur indenting right inferior turbinate"
I have been taking augmentin and doing gargling with BETADINE GARGLE from past 7 days and the pain a reduced a bit
My Doctor mentioned to me saying that mucus is being formed and the nasal deviation is a reason for it
He is asking me to go for a surgery and correct the nasal deviation.
What do you suggest ? Is the bony spur normal or should it be surgically removed ? can nasal deviation be the reason behind a mild throat pain and mucus formation ?
Nasal and sinus surgery is not recommended.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for following up.
1. From your symptoms, the attached reports and scan images, surgery is absolutely not recommended at present. This DNS, spur and turbinate hypertrophy is very common. No doubt, DNS will give discomfort at times but that is easily manageable with conservative treatment.
2. Treatment with an anti-allergy, mucus thinning medication, anti-inflammation medication, anti-reflux medication, steroid nasal sprays, steam inhalation, oral rinses with benzydamine 0.15% solution should be done.
3. Allergy tests will help if all the symptoms do not subside.
4. Please call me back for further discussion.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
