This Summer I Walked A Lot (about 50-70k A Week)
Question: This summer I walked a lot (about 50-70k a week) and started getting pain in my left hip and left inner thigh (I am 43A chiropractor diagnosed me with Lumbar spondylosis, with nerves now pinching areas of my hips and groin. The last disc of my spin is pushed diagnoally into my sacrum (bone). I got electric and massage therapy and was told to avoid exercise for a few weeks before starting exercises on my lower back muscles.
My question is- how do I relax until then? Every position I lie down or sit in feels uncomfortable. Sitting upright seems to hurt my upper back. The pain has now gone into my shoulders and down into my fingers. My lower back still feels sensitive when I lie flat on my back. What postures are safe to work in, relax in and sleep in? I am asking because I can't see my chiropractor again until at least monday.
Note: I cannot take NSAIDs like Ibuprofen because of a stomach condition.

Hi there
Thanks for the query
The best way to relax the hip and spine is lying on the side with hip and knee flexed to about 30° with pillow between the knees. If you do lie on your back then a thin pillow behind your lumbar spine will help.
I have a suspicion you may have arthritis of the hips as well and would be helpful to get an xray as well.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thank you, I will ask the doctor to check my hip x-rays. What about when I am sitting for work? I have tried sitting up straight in a kitchen chair, but it just seems to put strain on my upper back and I now have pain in both my hands.
I have a bed that elevates the front half to prevent GERD. Is this safe? If so, to what angle?
Finally, what can I do to recover from this situation?

As long as your lower back is kept straight it's alright. Keep it inclined to the most comfortable angle to you.
If you have upper limb symptoms it could possibly indicate cervical disc disease and pinched nerves. I would recommended a cervical and lumbar spine MRI to find out the various pinched nerves.
