Total protein/ creatinine ratio is used to monitor persistent proteinuria.
It is more accurate in identifying the renal function than 24 hour urine protein value.
A value of more than 300mg protein per gram of creatinine signifies a macroalbuminuria.
It can be due to a systemic disorder like hypertension, diabetes or a primary renal pathology. Further investigations are needed to identify the cause.
The total protein in urine in 24 hours should not exceed 80mg/day. A value of 123mg/ L is again increased and is suggestive of a renal pathology or a systemic disorder.
Hope this answers your query. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
