Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Nutrilite is just a nutritional supplement, it has no role in the management of Diabetes Type 1. If you feel that your son is not eating properly you may give him the nutritional supplements it will help him. You must understand there is no substitute for a well balanced healthy diet and other things are only supplements.

Now regarding the details of Stem Cell Therapy:

Presently stem cell therapy is presently practiced and found to be successful in treating Neurological conditions only.

The latest breakthrough in treatment of Diabetes Type 1 is Islet cell transplantation. This is a procedure where the cells that produce insulin (Islet cells) is extracted form a healthy donor and transferred to the required patients. The problem here is there are not many donors available.

This is where the stem cell therapy come in. What they are trying to do is grow these Islet cells in the lab itself so that sufficient quantities of these cells can be produced and used for treatment. This is still in the research process.

I hope my answer has been adequate and informative. If you have any follow up queries I will be available to answer them.

Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing back to me.

Before you start your son on any protein and calcium supplements, get the following tests done:
1. Liver Function Test : To check his present protein levels
2. Serum Calcium : To know his calcium levels

If the above tests are normal I suggest you not give me any other supplements as this will put additional strain on his body resources. Because excessive protein will be converted to glucose or fat which puts strain on the liver. Increased Calcium in diet will not be absorbed into the body and may causing digestion and bowel problems. Moreover excessive calcium in blood will put strain on the kidneys. Excessive excretion of calcium may lead to stone formation on the long run.

But if the above tests shows deficiency then supplements would be necessary. In such cases you can directly go for medical supplements.

Calcium along with Vitamin D which promotes greater absorption of calcium is also commercially available. Which can be availed as an Over The Counter medication.

Medical protein supplements are available in the form of capsules and syrup which are better absorbed than any other nutritional supplements available.

But my suggestion would be to given him egg white, one per day which will XXXXXXX both his calcium and protein requirements. Egg is the best available natural calcium and protein supplement available.

As I have mentioned earlier, Diabetes till date. I suggest you to consult an endocrinologist who may give you some leads if he is doing research in that area.

Regarding a balanced diet for your son, I suggest:
1. Give him complex carbohydrate and high fiber diet like oats, barley etc.
2. Avoid simple sugars like sweets, chocolates, juices etc
3. Give small frequent meals instead of large meals with long intervals.

As there are various other factors like age, height, weight, BMI, likes and dislikes for food etc involved in planning a custom based diet. I suggest you to consult an dietician who will plan a well-balanced diet tailored to your son's condition. We had experienced dieticians on our panel whom you can consult for the same at "http://www XXXXXXX com/diet-plans-from-nutritionist"

Wish your son good health.

Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing back.

I suggest boiled egg white because it is better absorbed in the body. It has minimum effect on the sugar levels.

As natural Haara Pudina is not allopathic medication I cannot comment on it. But I am of the opinion it is not required.

Regarding the last part of your query, if it is acupuncture as treatment for Type 1 diabetes. My opinion is it is of no value.

Because as i have mentioned earlier the cause of Type 1 diabetes is the destruction of the cells that produce insulin. So unless you can do anything to produce insulin in the body or administer insulin via parenteral route this condition cannot be treated.

As your son is young you can teach him to lead a normal life with the help artificial insulin. This should be taught to him as his lifestyle medication. So in the long run he will be able to accept his condition without any regret and help lead a better life, until other treatment modalities has been discovered.

I hope my answer has been adequate and informative.
