Question : Type II diabetic with extremely itchy full body rash x 6 mo. Started as exzema scalp area. Every afternoon, my chest and stomach and arms start to feel very warm, skin mottled underneath. Two rounds of prednisone; and hydroxyzine continually. It is so itchy that dermatologist prescribed Vaseline type ointment to put on twice a day after shower. Helps a little. Once I shower, my skin burns so badly I cry. When I perspire the itching becomes unbearable. . Have gone through contact dermatitis protocol to no avail. Ready to see allergist next week, but this doesn’t feel like an allergy to me. Have not started any new meds since onset except prednisone and hydroxyzine. Any ideas?

                                    Brief Answer:
Lupus may be a possibility.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I am sorry to hear about your situation.
I don't think this is much related to food allergy or other allergies.
I can suggest you to get tested for lupus. Lupus happens in much younger age but it is possible to happen even in your age.
You may need to do a total blood count, urine analysis and anti ANA antibodies to check for lupus.
Also skin biopsy may be done to check lupus or any other autoimmune disease.
Continue with corticosteroid therapy recommend by doctor till results come out.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
