Question : Brief Answer:
Can you send a picture?
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It would be better if you can upload picture of the eye taken with a good camera under broad light.
May I also know how did this develop - abruptly or gradually?
Was there an injury?
Do you have pain, burning sensation of the eye?
Do you have itching or excessive watering in the eye?
Any other associated symptoms with the redness?
Awaiting your response...

Brief Answer:
Eye inflammation vs subconjunctival bleeed..
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Couple of possibilities that I can think of are eye inflammation and subconjunctival bleed.
Inflammation commonly arise from conjunctiva (conjunctiva) is known to cause pain and redness of white of the eye. However other structures of the eye including glands, eye lashes, sclera, iris and so on can also cause redness and pain. It's difficult to predict which of these is the cause without a picture and or physical examination. But if I have to take a guess, then it would be conjunctivitis.
In this situation, I would suggest to start over the counter pain killer (tylenol pain relief) along with antihistamine drug (zyrtec). Cold compresses alternating with warm compress will also benefit you. You should also consider a visit to your doctor for local examination. The doctor would prescribe antibiotic eye drops which might treat this problem.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards
PS: My opinion is based on the limited information that I have.
