Brief Answer:
>2.5ng/ml is considered abnormal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
The PSA test is a blood test that measures how much of a particular protein (called prostate-specific antigen) is in your blood.
For men in their 40s and 50s: A PSA score greater than 2.5 ng/ml is considered abnormal. The same reference applies from 30-50 years. For men in their 60s: A PSA score greater than 4.0 ng/ml is considered abnormal. The normal range is between 1.0 and 1.5 ng/ml.
So you don't need to be worried as PSA 1.16 isn't high.
High PSA levels are seen in the following :
1)benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)
2) inflammation of prostate gland
3)trauma to prostate gland
4) prostatic cancer.
Only if it is >2.5-3.0 ng/ml, it would be significant.
If you still have any doubt, you can repeat the test after 1 or 2 months.
Mostly PSA levels are tested in individuals above 40 years.
Hope i have answered your question. Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you.
Take care.
