Question: We found a hard lump on our daughters left side 8th rib on our 3 1/2 year old daughter. The lump is very hard feels like part of the bone from her rib. The size is the circumference of a dime. Her pediatrician ordered an xray that show no abnormalities. Pediatrician advised we can get an ultrasound, however it may not show bony surfaces, or we can wait a few weeks to see if there are any changes. Any idea what this lump can be?

Brief Answer:
It can be a lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

Taking count that it is not seen in a x-ray it can't be a bone structure.
I think it can be a lymph node possibly due to any infection.
You may need to do an ultrasound of it or a total blood count.
I don't think it is much important.

Hope I have answered the question.
