What STDs Get Transmitted Through Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: What STD or STI can a man get from receiving oral sex only (mouth to penis)/ My doctor told me today that there is somewhat of a debate in the sexual health community but stated only Herpes or Hepatitis (don't remember which one she said). Other exceptions may be if someone has some kind of gonorhea tonsilitus or warts in their mouth. Can you shed further light on the first question above? Thank you.

Hi
Thank you for query.I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.

Welcome to HCM.

STDs are rarely transmitted through oral sex.
Some STDs can be transmitted like herpes simplex virus 1&2, Human papilloma virus (HPV which causes warts). The chances are higher if active lesions are present.
The other STDs like gonorrhea can be transmitted if active infection is present.

You can get back for clarification with details.
Thank you

Hi Dr. Basti,

Thanks for your reply.

It sounds like you are saying if a person is actively infected with gonorrhea, it can be transmitted from mouth to penis via oral sex - though the risk is low? I'm not sure. Please clarify. I understand the other parts of your reply. Thank you.
