There are multiple drugs available for mania disorder. It occurs mainly due to disturbance of the chemicals that are called neurotransmitters in the brain. The aim of the treatment is to stabilize these chemical and keep them in balance. The drugs include carbamazepine, escitalopram, fluxitiene and certain others.

Apart from these drugs psychological sessions with psychologist is also very much effective.

I wondered if there were any non drug treatments. EG herbal remedies etc.

There is a herbal extract with the name ginkobioloma which have good effects on mind but still alone its not that much effective as in combination with the drug therapy.
