Question : I had a take away meal this eve & put one of the plastic container's with the lid off in the oven whilst I was bringing stuff in from the car - I thought the oven was on v low but it was higher than I thought because I saw that the container was a little burnt round the edges when I got it out. However I thought all ok & it was only when I was clearing everything away that I realised that it had melted quite a lot at the top and when I compared the plastic container that I'd put in the oven to one that I hadn't, it has shrunk with the heat quite a lot. Now feeling v foolish and rather worried.

There is no need to worry as plastic is an inert substance that will probably pass out of your system with stools.

However, it is recommended not to heat food in plastic containers as chronic ingestion of plastic is carcinogenic...
