Hi Madam,

I have carefully read your query and understand your concern.

Secondary prevention is intended to prevent complications once the disease is diagnosed.They include.

1.Strict calorie intake not exceeding 1800 kcal /day.

2.Fortnightly monitoring of fasting and postprandial blood glucose.

3.Complete diabetic eye check up at the time of diagnosis and periodically at one year thereafter to detect diabetic retinopathy at the earliest.

4.Regular physical exercise like brisk walk for 20 min/day for 5d/week.

5.Reduce the intake of fats and oils.

6.Oatmeal breakfast is mandate.

7.Complete kidney evaluation semiannually to detect diabetic nephropathy at the earliest.

8.Glycated Hb1ac estimation is needed at every 3 months to monitor long term sugar control.

9.Good control of blood pressure and semi annual check up with 2 dimensional echo of heart.

10.Maintain blood lipids within normal range with semiannual repeat testing.

Tertiary prevention includes preventing disabilities arising out of complications.They include.

1.use MCR footwear in diabetic neuropathy.

2.timely dressing and surgical management of foot ulcers.

3.timely management of diabetic eye disease.
