What Are Symptoms Of Vaginal Yeast Infection?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Dec 2014
Question: Good afternoon.
I'm pretty sure I have the start of a yeast infection. I had one once before after finishing antibiotics and I was recently on the same antibiotics again. What I'm nervous about is the discharge. Last time I had clumpy. This time it's more like a glue-like consistency. I've taken diflucan and put some Monistat cream in the itchy areas. It seems to be helping. At first I thought it was just small tears healing from intercourse. I have problems with penetration so small tears are common for me. I guess I'm just worried I might have taken a yeast pill when, due to the discharge, it might be something else? I'm monogamous married and otherwise healthy.

Brief Answer:
It seems to be yeast infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query and understand your concerns.

The way you describe ,it seems to be a yeast infection.
Usually vaginal yeast infection causes a white creamy vaginal discharge ,usually odorless ,itching and burning sensation in vulva, redness and irritation in vulvar region.

The fact that you have been taking antibiotics lately and that your symptoms improve after using anti-fungal medication ,make it highly likely that it is a yeast infection.

You have already take the right treatment for vaginal yeast infection : Fluconazole (diflucan) single dose oral tablet and Monistat cream.
You don't specify when did you start this treatment.
It is recommended to use Monistat cream twice a day for 7 days.
If after 1 week -10 days of starting the anti-fungal treatment your symptoms of vaginal discharge ,itching and burning persist you should consult a physician and get examined. In this case there are two possible options:
-It is a yeast infection but you need a stronger and longer treatment
-It is not a yeast infection.
Your doctor may order a test that examine your vaginal secretions and identify the cause of the infection.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.

Small follow-up question. Its been 24 hours and although nothing is worse, its also not much better. Sometimes i can be busy enough to keep my mind off it but im still itchy around the opening of my vagina and it burns s little when i urinate. There doesnt seemto be any cuts or tears. I did call my dr but they said that now tgat ive started treatment gor a yeast infection i just have to wait and see. Does it still sound like a yeast infection? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
continue the treatment for 7 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

It seems like a yeast infection.
Since it has been only 24 hours since you start the treatment you have to give it some time.
Continue applying the anti-fungal cream (Monistat) twice a day for 7 days.
If after 1 week your symptoms (discharge and itchiness ) persist you should consult your physician.

Take care,
Dr.Rovena
