What Are The Adverse Effects Of High Doses Of Prednisone?
Question: My physician has recommended that I start a course of Prednisone ?? starting at 60 mgms and tapering every 2 days. I am an 83 yr old female with pseudogout following hip surgery. This has happened in the past after surgery and was confirmed with the presence of characteristic chrystals following aspiration. My question concerns the high starting dose - it makes me nervous. Have you any concerns about this dosage at my age?

Well, 60 mg Is quite a high dose.. Both for your age and for psuedogout as well. Psuedogout responds to 20-30 mg. Yes I would be concerned at your age as high dose steroids can cause sleep deprivation, psychosis rise on blood pressure and sugars. I would recommend you to take a lower dose like 30 mg and taper it over next few days
