Question: The answer was generally OK, but I was really interested in the amount of time nurses expend just in relieving patients of the uncomfortable after-effects of radiation and chemotherapy treatments of cancer

Brief Answer:
It takes almost 3-4 days for usual post chemo or radio symptoms in hospital

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to healthcaremagic! Thanks for sharing the details and feedback. I will try to be specific about your query. Earlier we have discussed the common or usual post chemo or radio symptoms and their variation depending upon type and area or exposure as well as dose of the both.

In my experience, I have seen our patients who are usually on these treatments, it takes almost 3-4 days for the patients to recover from acute effects of these treatments, and for this period most of these patients need strict nursing care and often needs intravenous fluid replacements and anti emetics like dimenhydrinate or odensterone.

Most of the symptoms settle down and patients go back home or oral supportive medications. But mild symptoms may persist for few weeks and that of course is dose , site and type of radio and chemo.

Another common side effect which may prolong stay in hospital or under nursing care is, that often blood counts fall after such therapies and may need blood transfusions as well as drop in white cell counts which need certain growth factors for these cells which may trigger or support their production from the bone marrow. In such cases stay may get prolonged upto a week or so.

Hope this has answered your query, if you still have any more questions, you fan comfortably discuss in detail in follow up queries and I will try to be helpful until your query isn't resolved. Good day. Regards.
