default
Posted on Thu, 26 Mar 2015
Question: I've been a pack per day smoker for 15 years and have a nicotine//cotinine test for a RN position. My last cigarette was on March 5th, 2015, and my test is on March 19th, 2015. I am 6"2 and weigh 200 lbs. I've been drinking a gallon of water per day. Will I pass this test? I'm terrified.

Brief Answer:
I am not very positive about this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this upcoming test and your nicotine use. Given how much time and the quantity of cigarette per day, there are high chances that you may not make it safe through this testing. 14 days is such a small time as in heavy consumers, it may take as much as 90 days. Urine test is less robust and detects shorter duration. Hair follicles can go up to as long as 90 days. If it is urine,, my fingers are crossed. However, if this is hair follicle test, there is no way out.

There is nothing much we can do. I say continue with drinking much water daily. if it helps, that;s nice and if it doesn't, we would have known we did our best.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and fele free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
