What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy After Protected Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: I had protected sex using a condom on September 9, exactly four days before my period is due. He hit my cervix and I was sore for the whole day, and the following day. I checked and didn't seem to notice anything wrong with the condom. It's Sunday the 13th, my period is due, but it's not here yet. Is it normal for it to be a bit late? I haven't felt any period symptoms (cramps, chin pimples, sore breasts) which is concerning me. I had a mini-period about two weeks ago that lasted like 3 days. I'm not on the pill or any kind of birth control. Oh and I'm 22. Should I be concerned right now that it doesn't feel like my period is coming?

Brief Answer:
low chance of Pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

There is a low chance of pregnancy based on the history that you detailed. If you have a regular cycle and you had protected sex 4 days before you were due then pregnancy is not possible as after ovulation the egg does not make it to this far in the menstrual cycle. Delay of a few days can occur due to a number of reasons. The bleeding that occurred 2 weeks back and the fact that you don't use any regular contraception would make me advise a pregnancy test if you don't get your period or within 21 days of the intercourse on 9th September, just to be safe.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Thanks! I tend to bleed mid-cycle often due to stress or anxiety. Is this normal for women?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

This is not normal. However cyclic changes do occur in relation to stress and anxiety. I would advise you to discuss OCPs with you doctor as they can help with regularizing the cycle , preventing the irregular bleeding and provide contraception benefits.
