Brief Answer:
Even without the Plan B, your pregnancy risk is close to zero

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I would be happy to answer your question today.

The Mirena IUD is just as effective in preventing pregnancy as sterilization, unless it has come out by mistake. If you saw your healthcare provider after the insertion and were checked that the string was visible, and/or have checked it yourself recently, there is no reason to assume it would not work as a birth control method.

In addition to that, Plan B reduced your risk of pregnancy to less than 10 percent if taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse (without additional birth control)

So, the combination of these methods make pregnancy is your case virtually impossible. I suggest that you really do not need to use Plan B in addition to your Mirena as the IUD is effective alone in preventing pregnancy.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was reassuring. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
