What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy After Unprotected Sex With Pills Usage?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I have just started taking zoely pill 2 weeks ago, where I had ruled out pregnancy. I had one unprotected encounter 7 days after commencing the pill and now 5 days after the encounter a urine test(s) are showing positive.
Since it is so early on, is it likely the urine test is showing a false positive due to the fact that I have continued taking the pill?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Blood test for pregnancy or ultrasound

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
If you have used the pills regularly, the possibility of pregnancy is less.
Usually urine pregnancy test kit cannot detect pregnancy five days after intercourse.
So, the possibilities in your case are:
-False positive urine pregnancy test or
-You may be pregnant before using the pills itself. That time test may not detected the pregnancy.
To avoid the confusion you can go for blood test for pregnancy or ultrasound.
Compared with urine test, blood test for pregnancy can give more accurate result.
Ultrasound can detect the gestational sac after five completed weeks of pregnancy.
