What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy After Vasectomy?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I had a vasectomy approximately 4 years ago 2010. I went back after the procedure and my doctor said there no active sperm. My girlfriend has told me she is late for her time of the month. I do have a lump on my testicle which my doctor said was non cancerous. I was wondering if this lump could have carried active sperm to make my girlfriend possibly pregnant?

Brief Answer:
Very unlikley.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

With your girl being late, pregnancy is a possibility but not top or the only possibility here. I will like her to do a home pregnancy test to see whether she is for real pregnant or not. If she is pregnant, I will say without a paternity test to show that you are the father, it would most likely not be you.

There are very limited chances to for vasectomy to fail and be responsible for this.

In all, let her get a pregnancy test/ If for real she is pregnant, then follow up with a paternity test as you are very very unlikely to father a child. A simpler approach may be to get your ejaculate examined for any possible sperms identification.

I hope this helps, I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Hello doctor, and thank you,

I'm sorry I forgot to add that she did use 2 home pregnancy tests after 9 days of being late which returned negative. However she still says that she feels a certain way as she felt after her last 2 pregnancies which also showed a negative return at this time frame. She is planning to conduct a third test this week.

**Most important. With this testicular lump I have be able to carry active sperm or what are the chances of my vas tubes reconnecting after all these years?

Brief Answer:
Chances of tubes reconnecting are very very very slim!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Even when surgery is undertaken to reconnect tubes, the chances of success are very very slim, talk less of spontaneous reconnecting. It is very rare and almost impossible.

I think she would end up being negative and not pregnant. Do not get worried. Follow through with the testing and keep me updated.

I hope this helps. Keep me posted with the outcome of this. The lump has really nothing to do with this.

Doctor I am really sorry but I have one more question. I am sorry, but I really appreciate it.

The lump I described is under the skin on my testicle. If it is a sperm granuloma, or other type of fluid filled cyst. Could that somehow carry active sperm into my semen?

P.S. I have set up an appointment with my doctor on friday for a sperm count check.

Thank you again

Brief Answer:
Very Unlikely!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is very unlikely for sperms to somehow get all the way back into the ejaculate/ Also, you need as many as 20million sperms/mm3 to have any significant chances of impregnating a lady. My best advice would have been for you to first confirm that your partner is pregnant before going for any self exams. I still recommend this to make XXXXXXX we do not use resources when it is not really necessary.

Keep me updated. Keep a cool head and more for the fact that your girl is not pregnant than the fact that she's.
