In early stage, the most common symptom or sign is a painless lump. Others may be skin dimpling or retraction, asymmetry of breasts or nipple/ areola.

In middle stage there may be larger lump, visible skin changes, armpit swelling, etc.

granulomatous mastitis, a non cancerous condition can have fixed lumps. Fat necrosis and fibroadenosis can also have fixed appearing lumps.
