Depends on the cause of hypothyroidism
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
The need for dietary modifications depends on the cause of hypothyroidism. Two common causes are:
1. Hashimoto's or auto immune - in which thyroid gland function is already damaged by anti thyroid antibodies. Here no diet modification is needed
2. Iodine deficiency - Here thyroid is normal, but hormone production is less due to less iodine.
This condition can be improved by taking more iodised salt, sea foods, milk etc and avoiding goitrogens like cabbage, cauliflower and tapioca.
Both these conditions can be identified by doing anti TPO antibodies ( blood tests) and ultrasound thyroid. Both these tests will be abnormal in Hashimoto's and normal in iodine deficiency.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you

 Thank you for your response.
I wanted to know if anti TPO antibodies ( blood tests) is different from the usual T3, T4 and TSH tests that I do to check my thyroid levels?
Thanks,
XXXX
It is a different blood test
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
This is a blood test to look for anti thyroid antibodies in blood. This is different from thyroid function test. You can order the test as anti TPO antibodies or anti microsomal antibodies.
