Question : My father-in-law has dementia & a slightly enlarged prostate. His current daily meds are as follows:
Duloxetine 60mg
Olanzapine 2.5mg
Atenolol 12.5mg
Exelon 10 patch 18mg
Duodart 500mcg
Aspirin 100mg
He has recently been hospitalised with a serious respiratory infection & I am concerned about the interaction of his current meds. I have questioned his GP but was told that I should not worry. Can you please advise?

Brief Answer:
Not to be worried as there are no specific symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Interaction between medications are known to occur. However, if there are no specific symptoms, not to be worried about.
2. I am not sure, whether your father-in-law has any specific side effects.
3. The anti hypertensive atenolol has no reaction with duodart, as they both affect different receptors.
4. Other medications, are necessary for Alzheimers and atypical symptoms management.

If there are any specific symptoms or side effects, after any recent start of medication, then only we need to worry about interactions. Do get back, if there are any specific symptoms.

Respiratory infection - hopefully is under control.

Due to recent hospitalization, his symptoms may appear severe. However, this is normal and with a good caretaker, regular medication and nutritious diet, he should improve.

Hope it helps.
