Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As I can see from our latest interaction that you are receiving Clozapine for psychiatric ailment and gabepentin for sleep we need to discuss it to the optimum level.
First of all as I communicated earlier I like to emphasise that there is no medicine which is better. I mean to say that every medication have their own pros and cons and we need to select medication as per the needs of individual.
As stated earlier I feel OTC medications should be tried first as they have less side effects and negligible addiction potential. In addition the chance of interaction with antipsychotic medication is very low.
In case OTC medication does not help you I feel Zolpidem should be next choice provided there is no anxiety component. In case anxiety component is there I generally prefer low dose Benzodiazepine such as Clonazepam 0.25 or 0.5 mg. This is often recommended for short duration followed by tapering down. The removal of sleep medicine is possible only when we control the underlying psychiatric condition to the optimal level.
I feel that Gabepentin is not one of the first choice and should be avoided as far as possible. This is because Gabapentin acts on the same receptors which are prone to causing addiction.
I hope this helps you.
