Question : What are the possible / likely causes of near-total, sudden Erectile Dysfunction following balanitis of the urethra due to a male yeast infection? UTI and STD negative. 21 year old male patient. Is it something that would likely require a lot of work (years or a lifetime), or is it possibly something easily fixed? What would you be interested in looking for as an expert urologist? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Involvement of erectile tissue in infective process .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that you have posted you have been facing problem of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) after having Ballanitis due to yeast infection ..

Since blood vessels that supply arterial blood to erectile tissue and rest of the penile structures including urethra is common the infective process that affects the urethra or glans penis also involves erectile tissue resulting in inflammation and infection of arterioles causing what is called as Vasculitis which makes them more rigid and loosing their elasticity causing these arterioles not to be filled with adequate blood to get an erection .

It is a transient process and should recover once the infection is brought under control with appropriate antibiotics and anti fungal medications.

Consult qualified Urologist or Sexologist to confirm the diagnosis and take appropriate medicines as per his advice .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Dr. Patil: Thank you Sir.
Follow-up question: I had urine analysis tests and they say I am "clean." Is it possible to have a UTI even though these tests say otherwise? Or would such an infection even be considered a UTI? My fungus is not totally under control on the skin yet, either.

Thank you again Sir. Your answers give me peace of mind as I wait for a urologist where I live.

Routine urine analysis may not detect UTI It requires urine culture to be done to confirm or rule out UTI .
