Question: I went to dentist today for cleaning and they said they wanted xrays. I didnt want them but agreed to just 4 bitewings. After the cleaning though the dentist said he wants a panoramic and 2 bitewings of front teeth before he fills cavities. Normally i wouldnt care but i had alot of ct scans and a stress test 2 months ago. I added them up on a radiation calculater site and the total came to 78msv. Im really nervous about letting dentist do more xrays and adding to that number. Would having that much radiation in a time span of 3-4 months be bad. I also have an enlarged thyroid which im also concerned about since i heard radiation can mess with thyroid. Would it be best to just put dental work on hold for a year? I really wanted to get any cavities taken care of so they wouldnt get to a point where i may need antibiotics or be pulled. I had one pulled 2 months ago d/t infection where i also got quite a few xrays done from being shuffled around to dentists because the root was crooked and tooth was broken it was a nightmare and a month of pain untill someone finally said they could get it out. The extraction itself was easy took about 7 minutes.

Thanks im just nervous of getting cancer or it messing with my thyroid more. If radiation was yo causr cancer how far doen tge road woukd it be? Is it months, years or decades generally?
