What Are The Repercussions Of High Dosage Of Morphine Solution?

Question: I am just trying to get a second opinion. I have cronic back pain and my doctor recently prescribed me roxnol its liquid morphine and advised me to take 60mg every 4 hours. My problem is everywhere i read it says you should not exceed 30mg every 4 hours. I was just wondering if taking 60mg in a single dose can hurt me or if this is a normal thing? The medication is not an extended realease either, it the liquid that is instant realease
Brief Answer:
Normal dosage is XXXXXXX 30 mg every 4 hours.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Normal dosage for the Morphine solution is 20 mg every 4 hours initially and could be increased till 30 mg every 4 hours.
In patients that have used previously other opioids ( their body has created a certain tolerance), the dose can be increased a little, if the normal dosage didn't give the expected results.
Higher doses could result in respiratory failure, so it needs to be used with caution.
I suggest you to discuss again this issue with your treating Doctor and what were his intentions.
Hope this helps. If you have further questions feel free to ask.
