Question : I have a tremendous tolerance for opiate pain medication. I spent years on fentanyl 100 mcg/ 48 hrs and now I've regraded to Norco 10/325 3x / day. My pain was very severe today (sciatica) and I've taken 5 Norco in 17 hours and 4 of them since 12 noon (7 hours) . Am I in trouble?

This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Generally norco can be taken 4-6 times a day also, but generally one does not need as many. Acute pain might require such frequent dosage which you are going through, but it is temporary.
Yes you have had a very frequent dosage but I believe it wont be a problem as it is for a single instance. But I will ask you not to repeat such frequent dosage, as these are pain medications and have associated side effects.
Dont worry, but try to reduce intake of pain medications.
For sciatica pain, hot dry compression, regular spinal exercises with pregabalin-mecobalamin will be useful. This will reduce dosage of pain meds too.
