What Are The Risks Of Bleeding When On Coumadin?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Mar 2015
Question: I am going in for open heart surgery and will be on coumadin. I have 3 ovarian cysts. Two have old blood and are being closely monitored and one is from menstratuation. What are my risks of bleeding out with Coumadin and are they life altering risks? Doctor doesn't want to remove the ovary because of risk of hormones and my not being able to take them. What is risks long term? What side affects would I look for if I did start bleeding out of a cyst and how much time would I have? Please let me know. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
The cysts won't bleed

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcomed to healthcare magic. I am here to help you. These ovarian cysts which are blood containing are usually endometriotic cysts and even if you take Coumadin a blood thinner these cysts won't bleed so not a matter of concern.Your doctor is right in saying not to remove the ovaries. Even if they start bleeding ie less than 0.1% you will have complaint of severe abdominal pain and then it is an emergency to remove the ovary. But don't worry in all likelihood they never bleed.
