Question : I am asking on behalf of a 59 year old female who is having cataract surgery tomorrow/

What is the risk of having this surgery without using Acuvil and Pred Fort (she is allergic to asprin type drugs)

I am Dr.Saddiq-ul-abidin. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Your concern is related to two drugs. One belongs to non steroidal anti-inflammotary drugs category, while other being steroid.

These drugs are given for their role in preventing inflammation in local area, and to decrease associated symptoms with inflammation like pain, itching, pressure effects and delayed healing.

Since the patient is allergic to aspirin that means use of acuvil can be associated with serious adverse effects.

Use of steroids can be continued like prednisone. The anti inflammatory effects can be achieved by steroids alone. Also for itching and pain acetaminophen can be given as alternative to acuvil.
