Brief Answer: Tubectomy is irreversible Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic. Tubectomy is a permanent method to avoid pregnancy. The benefit is that there would be no chances of getting pregnant and there would not be any need to take other contraceptives. The after-effect is that if she wishes to become pregnant at a later stage in life then she would have to go for recanalisation and the chances of pregnancy after recanalisation would also be less. So you may consider it as irreversible. Most common scenario (especially in western countries) is after breaking up with current partner and finding a new partner, then woman desires pregnancy. The usual reason in Indian scenario is that after sometime woman repents this procedure and wants to have more kids. In Indian conditions infants and child mortality is relatively higher than developed countries. Other side effects are as follows: - inner bleeds or injury to other nearby structures like ureter etc. - infection and peritonitis (infection of the lining of the intestines) - lower backache - menstrual disorders like heavy flow or no periods - weakness - decrease libido - psychological issues Not all women have all these side-effects. The side effects with laparoscopy are minimal. The woman definitely needs 2 weeks complete rest after the procedure or the incidence of these side-effects increases. Failure rate of 6 per 1000 should also be considered. Hope I answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Dr Vaishalee
