default
Posted on Mon, 23 May 2016
Question: I use the drug carisoprodol and it works great . I do not use this drug that often. I have spinal stiniosis which has messed up my life greatly. So what kind problems and side effects can I expect as I have been taking this drug for years, I am 65 years old, changed my RX insurance and they will not pay for it and my other RX plan had paid for a lot of precribed drugs that I have been taking for years, they want me to try other drugs that put me in this position in the first place, like statin drugs. Got a recipe that works and now these drugs are not in their formulary., YYYYYY @mac.com

I just want my original question and I do not mind paying $15.00 to answer it but I can not afford a $15.00 monthly charge and do not want a subscription. would like a receipt please.

Brief Answer:
Carisoprodol, Statins

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Carisoprodol is basically a muscle relaxant. It has no severe or serious long term adverse effects. The common side effects include drowsiness, somnolence, dizziness and headache.

Statins, especially atorvastatin is associated with myopathy. I would advise an alternative such as rosuvastatin or pravastatin that have lower association with myopathies.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX Career XXXXXXX
Thank you for your recent answers for Carisoprodol, and Statins drugs. I guess there is some confusion about statin drugs that my new RX Insurance wants me to take to control chorlostrol , Triglides, and HDL, and LDL. As I mentioned in my first question, I was diagnosed of having to be allergenic to all Statin drugs, which gave severe muscle myopathic to me. I had to go through very painful biopsy which now is slowly repairing itself which is one of the reasons why I take Carisprodol and my new RX Insurance will not cover which the old RX Insurance covered. My point is why they tell me to Try A statin drug when my doctors told them I have a bad reaction to statin drugs and I went through hell and a lot of money to find this out. Besides my colestrol. is 205 and has been since my back surgery. You answered the Carisoprodrol question but not The statin drug one

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Statins are a class of lipid lowering drugs.

Though there are many other lipid lowering medications, the only class that has shown to decrease mortality and reduce risk of strokes and hear attacks , is the class of drugs known as STATINs.

I would advise that you try the hydrophilic statins as stated earlier to reduce the risk of myopathy. If it persists or recurs then other meds like ezetimibe can be tried.

Hello again.

I am sorry for your distress.

If statins cant be tolerated then ezetimibe, fibrates or niacin are additional options. These can be considered as alternatives.
