Question: I use Minoxidil mostly everyday. I know it gets into the blood stream and could that cause any problems down the road?

Brief Answer:
Minoxidil is safe lotion and is USFDA approved.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for use of minoxidil and its probability of absorption or causing any side effects due to same.

Minoxidil is a very safe drug to be used for the purpose of hair growth. It is USFDA APPROVED because of its safety feature. It is so safe that even 10% of lotion can be used on our scalp skin.

Though a very little of amount can get absorbed in our blood stream but that is almost negligible and never cause any side effects.

But it is important to use this medication under dermatological supervision only. Do let me know what percentage of minoxidil lotion you are using and since how long you are relaxed using the same. Kindly also tell me if you are taking any medications or any medical condition.

Dr XXXXXXX I use several drops of 5% Minoxidil topical solution in the morning after a shower. My medications are Pamelor10 mg, Zoloft 25mg, an occasion .5 Xanax. I also take Omega3, vitamin D, vitamins B12 and B6. I was instructed by a Hair Club to use the Minoxidil twice a day. If I elect to only once a day, is it better in the morning or in the evening?

Brief Answer:
Minoxidil: various suggestions and guidance.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Welcome back and thanks a lot for your swift follow up with details.

After analyzing the complete condition let me guide certain important points which I guide to my patients:

- It is always recommended to use minoxidil in dry scalp rather than wet scalp.

- Only 1 ml of lotion is to be used and not more than that in one time. A dropper with 1 ml mark is supplied to get the proper amount.

- Night time is better suited for the application rather than day time.

- A gentle massage and spreading to the surrounding skin helps in even absorption of the lotion.

- Application is best effective in front and crown area of the scalp.

Minoxidil generally lowers down blood pressure and in your case there is no medications which can interact with the same. I reassure you fully that there are no side effects of using minoxidil under supervision.

I hope above information will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.

With regards,
