Brief Answer:
Drug is NECESSARY / side effects not common

Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Your cholesterol is very high and it cannot be controlled by life style changes alone (diet and exercise). They have a definite but limited role…because it is also manufactured in the liver – and that is determined by heredity.

YOU CERTAINLY NEED DRUGS…
STATIN IS THE FIRST CHOICE – and Rosuvastatin is a good drug… You have been started on a small dose … As a matter of fact, you may need a far bigger dose – for such levels, highest recommended dose is generally prescribed… I would have started 20 mg and might have to double it after 2 months

All drugs will have side effects… even ordinary paracetamol can damage the liver. The side effects include rash, stomach upset, elevation of liver enzymes, muscle pain and so on… the list is long… They occur only in a minority… Here THE GOOD EFFECTS WILL FAR OUTWEIGH THE SIDE EFFECTS…. The good effect will be to prevent or postpone heart attacks, stroke and other events from thickening of blood vessels… Take the drug; if there is some unusual development, see your doctor – he will evaluate the role of the drug, if any

Drug is taken to supplement NOT supplant the life style changes

HDL is good cholesterol – higher, the better.
LDL is bad cholesterol – lower, the better.
In the absence of any other risk factor 100 is ideal for LDL-C. In the presence of other diseases (especially Diabetes and/or established heart disease), 70 should be the aim.

Keep your weight to normal / even a little less
Quit smoking, if you are a smoker
Do regular EXERCISE – say walking or jogging - 30 minutes a day / at least 5 days in a week. Isometric exercise (like bull worker) is bad.
Healthy FOOD is a must. Avoid saturated fats – coconut oil, palm oil, butter, ghee, full cream milk...Avoid junk foods in particular – French fries have palm oil / Pizza has cheese / XXXXXXX sweets are made in ghee.../ Change to Poly-un-saturated oil – like sun flower oil. / Include Mono-un-saturated oil – Olive oil.

Repeat the test in 2 to 3 months of drug and life style change.
Follow up with your doctor

Good luck
God bless you
