Brief Answer:
no therapy to lower the thyroid antibodies

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for asking!

Unfortunately until now there is no therapy to lower the antibodies that stimulate or destroy the thyroid gland and making her produce less hormones.

There are some studies that confirm the effect of selenium in lowering the antiTPO antibodies that cause Hashimoto thyroiditis but they should be used in the early stage when the thyroid function is still normal.
Once the hypothyroidism is installed there is no therapy to bring it in normal function again, so the selenium is not recommended.
Regarding antibodies that cause Graves' disease or hyperthyroidism, retuximab is recommended to lower antireceptor antibodies in severe cases.

So if you are still with normal thyroid function, but with thyroid positive antibodies, selenium is used for a 6 months period.

Hope i have answered your query.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

Thanks for your feedback Dr.Mirjeta. So prednisolone won't be of any use to suppress my antimicrosomal antibodies? They are of 105 iU/mL when the normal range is until 5.6. Provided my Antithyroglobulin ranges T3, T4 and TSH levels are normal. ( p.s I am 5.5 weeks pregnant)

Brief Answer:
Just take under control TSH level during pregnancy!

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

The side effects of prednisone are more dangerous than antimicrosomal antibodies :), that is why it is no worthy to treat them with prednisone.

Congrats for your pregnancy! Neither prednisone nor selenium are proved to be taken during pregnancy. All you have to do is to check your TSH level every 4 weeks and keep it under 2.5 mUi/ml.

It is higher you have to take Levothyroxine.
Wish you a healthy pregnancy!

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
