Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. Seroquel (Quetiapine) may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa. In addition, using these medications together may increase the risk and/or severity of side effects like drowsiness, low blood pressure, dizziness, and lightheadedness. These effects may occur with either medication alone and are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption.
Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position.
Use of Seroquel (Quetiapine) is indicated in case of psychosis with Parkinson disease. Currently, many physicians continue to cautiously offer a trial of low dose quetiapine empirically, in the absence of clear evidence for a proven alternative (with the exception of clozapine).
Seroquel at high dose can worsen the Parkinson by causing extrapyramidal side effects, so it must be used in low dose only. There is no contraindication as such if patient is getting relief from low dose of Seroquel (Quetiapine).
