What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Necrospermia?

default
Posted on Tue, 31 May 2016
Question: My husband has been suffering from a condition called 'necrospermia' now for over 3 years and every time he produces a sample for the semen analysis, all of the parameters are great and within normal limits, besides the fact that they are all non-motile. Recently, he went for another semen analysis and they did a split ejaculation test and placed the sample within a medium and there were motile sperm!!! However, as of last week when he provided a sample, and today again as well, they were still all dead sperm.

How is it even possible that he was able to provide a sample that contained motile sperm if 5 days later, the sample contained all dead sperm, and so did the one from today?

None of this makes any sense to us, not even his doctor. and just so you know, he has had all of the blood work and testing for STDS and also takes daily vitamins for sperm health. The doctor believes that maybe there is a toxin or something that his body is producing that is making them paralyzed while in the semen.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you for your reply!

Brief Answer:
Try in different standard laboratory

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns about necrospermia.

I remember having discussed the semen analysis last time and there was no mention of necrospermia. I wish to know following details before helping you further:

1) Where are these reports done ? All in a lab ?

2) Please repeat semen analysis in a different standard laboratory as this report could be wrong.

3) Repeat the tests in 3 different laboratories as the report in one laboratory could be wrong. Meet the doctor incharge of laboratory so that the doctor himself sees the sample instead of relying on technician alone.

4) Repeat semen analysis in one of IVF centres. This will help in identifying semen abnormalities better including necrospermia.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

yes there was no mention of necrospermia last time, because for only ONE TIME in 3 years, he had produced a normal sample. however over the past 2 weeks, he has gone in for further testing, and it still remains the same....all necrospermia. not a single live, moving sperm.

This condition has nothing to do with the laboratories we are using for the specimens, and he also does not use any lubricants or aids when producing the sample.

My question is: We have known of this condition for many years no, with Noone to offer any help in a possible cure. Hoever, HOW is it possible that he produced a sample, just a few weeks ago, and there WAS live sperm? And then it goes back to all being dead again? I just don't understand how that is even medically possible - how can something work, then not work?

Please, if you can help in anyway, I would greatly appreciate it. We have been suffering with this terrible condition for so long now. Yet, Noone is ever able to help. It is just so frustrating.

Thank you again for all of your help and support!

Brief Answer:
Infection or chromosomal abnormalities likely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I know how frustrating it would be when you find necrospermia.

There are various reasons for necrospermia :

1) Main reason being infection or inflammation of sperms or genital tract. If. infection is temporarily cured, you might get normal report of semen analysis. This is why you might have got a normal report.

2) Other reasons include any chromosomal problems.

3) Please get karyotype of your husband and chromosomal analysis of sperms. This will identify chromosomal abnormalities leading to necrospermia.

Regards

he had the chromosomal testing done. no issues. something is just killing them when in the semen. they did a split ejaculation test, and that is when they found some live viable moving sperm. he did the test again following week, and all are dead again? WHAT is possibly causing this???

Brief Answer:
Infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This appears to be due to infection somewhere in Reproductive tract.

Please get semen culture and sensitivity test done to identify the organism causing infection and the antibiotics it is responsive to.
