Brief Answer:
possible orthostatic hypotension with an increase in pulse on standing

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You may have postural hypotension. In this condition, the blood pressure drops and the pulse increases.

Though you have not measured the blood pressure, it is possible that it is dropping at the same time.

There are different reasons for postural hypotension: (1) inadequate fluids
(2)anemia
(3) side effect of medication
(4)heart disease
(5)nerve disease such as parkinsons or stroke- uncommon at your age
(6)abnormal function of a part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system that plays a part in blood pressure and pulse control
(7)hormonal causes

This may not be the cause of your symptoms but if it continues, then you should consider seeing your doctor for an assessment and treatment.

Treatment would depend on the findings

My blood pressure does run elevated. My doctor put me on 50 mg Metoprolol and has brought bp down into normal range.

Brief Answer:
need bp and pulse checked laying and standing (minute 1 and 3)

Detailed Answer:
HI

You can consider re visiting and having your blood pressure and pulse checked when laying down for at least 5 to 10 mins. When this time has passed, readings are checked

The blood pressure and pulse are checked at minute 1 and minute 3 after standing to see if there are any changes

I have checked my pulse after standing. It only races for the first minute or so, then goes to normal standing heart rate.

Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (5 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
the change is specific

Detailed Answer:
HI

Ok that's good but it needs to be raised by a certain amount ( by 20 beats) to be called orthostatic hypotension. In addition, as mentioned blood pressure readings also have to be done and they also need to change by a certain amount.

The top value/systolic- decrease by 20 and the bottom value by 10

It would be best, if possible, to have an objective assessment unless you have
very accurate home machine that can check both.
These are available

If this is not the case, it may be best to see your doctor for assessment

Sorry about the delayed reply

There is normally a small expected change, if it goes beyond that, it is a problem
