default
Posted on Sat, 25 Jun 2016
Question: Can you have crohns in the small intestine and still have no findings on colonoscopy or biopsy. Been on humaria since 2008 and no signs of crohns on scope. Humaria will heal the intestines though I was told. My new GI is doubting the dx. What are symptoms of crohns in small intestines only.
Was dx with cameran and small bowel follow through.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Crohn's disease can affect any part from mouth to anus. The most commonly affected part is at the junction of small and large intestine.
Also Crohn's disease undergoes remission and relapse on and off.
Taking all these in to consideration, one can have Crohn's disease and still have no findings in colonoscopy and biopsy.

Small bowel Crohn's disease presents with abdominal pain, weight loss, diarrhea, etc

Dr.R.K.

So basically the humaria is healing the crohns, the gi wants me to stop the humaria because doesn't think I need it. What is the protocol for stopping humaria when in remission.

If do stop and start to have symptoms will the humaria work at getting me back into remission.

I am taking weekly going to start going back to every two weeks but not sure about totally stopping. Would like to try monthly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, Humira is controlling the symptoms.
I would advise against stopping it if it is providing good relief.
The risk of Crohn's disease flaring up is there and sometimes it may be difficult to control the symptoms if you have to start taking Humira again.

Dr.R.K
