Brief Answer:
feline ring worm vs. staph infection

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are wondering if there is a way to tell the difference from ring worm infection and staph. There is a difference. With staph infections the lesions are usually open sores with honey color discharge or purulent drainage. It is obviously caused by a bacterial infection. With Ring worm it is not actually a worm but a fungal infection. This infection creates a dry circular lesion with the center flat and clear. no discharge and no redness. It is treated with an antifungal medication like lamisil or tinactin. The Staph infection requires an antibiotic.
